It's not too late for you

Hello my friend:

I just saw an article that listed some healthy eating tips
by the Mayo Clinic.  You know--the world-renowned Mayo
Clinic.

I was shocked at what I read. 

I couldn't believe an institution that is supposedly on
the "cutting edge" of health and treatment of disease would
write what they did. 

Here are a few excerpts from what I read along with my
comments:

"Order smaller portions. For example, a single small
hamburger instead of a double, or a small order of fries
instead of a large."

Sherry:  Who cares if it's large or small?  A hamburger and
french fries is about the worst food anyone could eat. 

It's completely devoid of precious water for the body, and
any naturally occurring nutrients in the potatoes have been
destroyed by the hot fat frying. 

They will cause digestive hell together in the stomach,
and most definitely gas, cramps, acid reflux or
constipation will follow.  They add pounds to the eater and
raise cholesterol, among many other things.

How about ordering a salad with broiled chicken instead?

"Look for low-fat or fat-free dressings."

Sherry:  Low-fat and fat-free dressings are loaded with
high fructose corn syrup (the worst form of sugar on the
planet), white processed sugar and chemicals galore.  It's
like putting marshmallow fluff on your salad. 

You're better off using olive oil (a good fat) and vinegar
or fresh lemon juice.

"Avoid milkshakes and dessert items such as pies and
sundaes. Try fresh fruit or a flavored coffee with skim
milk."

Sherry:  Fruit after a meal and coffee are both wickedly
acid-producing.  You're guaranteed to need the Tums after
either of those suggestions. 

Or get ready to spend the evening in the bathroom, in lots
of pain.

"Use nonstick cookware, which eliminates the need for oil
or butter."

Sherry:  According to the Environmental Working Group,
when Teflon and other non-stick pans are heated to at least
396 degrees, (which happens very quickly when preheating),
the non-stick coating begins to decompose and release one
or more of 15 different toxins (poisons). 

As the pans become hotter (after just a few minutes of
preheating), the chemicals become more deadly.
 
The fumes are toxic enough to kill pet birds and are
responsible for "polymer fume flu" in humans, sometimes
called "Teflon flu."  Symptoms include headache, nausea,
fever, backache and fatigue.

And there are also even more serious risks.

One of the main chemicals used in the manufacturing of non-
stick pans is perflurooctanoic acid (PFOA).  This chemical
has led to cancer and birth defects in lab animals, and has
been declared a likely human carcinogen (cancer causer).

Stainless steel and cast iron are your best bets for
cookware. 

Use the healthier olive or canola oils in your cooking,
instead of using pans with calorie-free toxic chemicals
that can give you cancer (or kill your bird).


Remember, those were suggestions by health professionals.

Listen, it doesn't take an "expert" to figure out that the
