Most people have heard about the importance of maintaining
a proper acid-alkaline balance in their bodies, but aren't
exactly sure of why or how to do it.
Even more mysterious is knowing whether you’re acid or
alkaline to begin with.
So here is a simple crash course to clear up any questions
you have and get you on a good acid-alkaline path, which
will do more good for you than practically anything else
you could do.
pH (potential of hydrogen) is the measure of hydrogen ions
present in a solution. In non-biochemist terms, that means
how acid or alkaline something is on a scale of 0 to 14. 0
is extremely acid, 14 is extremely alkaline and 7 is neutral.
Our blood naturally has a pH of 7.35--slightly alkaline.
And since blood is our "life force"-nourishing all of our
organs and tissues, it's crucial to maintain its alkaline
pH.
This is accomplished primarily through food.
Problem is, the processed and chemical nature of the diets
of most people today means that they are inundated with
acid. In short, most of what many people eat should never
ever be put into their bodies.
(Note there's a common misunderstanding about what an
acidic food is. What matters is NOT whether a food tests
acidic in a lab--it's whether or not it's acidic to your
body. Many times they're 2 different things. Lemons, for
example, test acidic in a lab, but are very alkalizing in
the body.)
The other food-related problem is that most people mis-
combine their foods and create even more acid in the body.
(More on that later.)
When your body is too acidic, it breaks down. Your organs
can't function like they should or at all. Aches and pains
crop up and worsen. Diseases of all kinds and tumors can
flourish. Benign tumors become malignant (cancer).
Premature aging accelerates. Excess weight and obesity can
result. And chances are, you'll die many years too soon.
Now, our bodies are brilliant and they know (better than
our brains do!) when the blood is acidic. It's then that
they put their "emergency anti-acid defenses" into place in
an attempt to alkalize the blood.
The two anti-acid defenses the body has are:
1-- expelling it and
2-- neutralizing it
Acid is expelled in the urine with the help of the
kidneys. The kidneys filter out acid from the blood and
dump it into the urine. So people whose blood is
chronically acidic are putting a tremendous strain on their
kidneys.
Acid is also expelled through the lungs when we exhale
carbon dioxide. That's why it's important to breathe
deeply (and get breathing heavier with exercise)--something
that most people never do on a regular basis if at all.
---
On the neutralizing side, your body neutralizes acid by
dumping minerals such as calcium, potassium and magnesium
into the bloodstream.
Know where it gets the minerals?
From your bones and muscles.
So if you're even a little too acidic, little by little,
your body is sapping calcium from your bones, and you're
begging for osteoporosis, arthritis and other bone and
joint problems.
And don't be fooled into thinking that if you take calcium
supplements everyday you're OK. Because if you don't stop
what's creating all that acid to begin with--your diet--
that calcium is just getting filtered through the kidneys
and excreted in the urine. Can you say 'kidney stones?'
The good news is that a perfect acid-alkaline balance is
pretty easy to achieve and maintain. There are just 3 key
steps:
1- Check your pH at regular intervals.
You can get a saliva test or urine test kit at most drug
stores or health food stores--the saliva test is the least
accurate and urine is slightly more accurate. You can also
have your blood tested by a doctor--this is the most
accurate but also the most expensive. If you want this
done and your doctor won't do it, find one who will.
2- Drink pure water.
Aim for at least 5-8 cups per day. Stir in a little fresh-
squeezed lemon juice to make it more alkaline. This does
not mean coffee, tea, Gator-Aid, soda or other sweetened
drinks.
3- Eat a diet of at least 70% alkaline foods and properly
combine all of your meals.

is all you need to accomplish this important 3rd step.
The GTNP guide "Foods That Create Acid and Foods That Take
It Away" tells you exactly which foods are acid and which
are alkaline, so there's no wondering.
And the manual "How To End Stomach Pain Forever, Even If
Your MD Says, 'No Way!'" explains the simple principles of
good food combining in everyday language, and even provides
a handy chart to make it even simpler.
