Yesterday I talked about how you CAN eat raw vegetables,
nuts, seeds and fruit, even if you've suffered by eating
them in the past... Even if some well-meaning but
misinformed doctors have told you to avoid them because of
digestive problems.
If there was a Top 10 List Of Bad Medical Advice, not
eating vegetables, nuts, seeds and fruit due to digestive
problems would be high up on that list.
The key to eating them and getting all the nutrients from
them is to eat them at the right times and with the right
other foods (like I teach in Great Taste No Pain).

Today I'd like to put one of those awesome vegetables in
the spotlight because it's a nutritional wonder that you
really can't afford to live without...not if you want great
health, that is.
I'm talking about broccoli.
The health benefits of this gem of Mother Nature are
extensive, but here are just a few of them:
==============
Cancer fighter
==============
Broccoli is loaded with anti-cancer agents such as beta-
carotene, selenium, glucoraphanin, vitamin C, vitamin A,
vitamin E, zinc and potassium. These nutrients also help
remove excess estrogen from the body, which makes it
particularly good at fighting breast and uterine cancer.
=====
Detox
=====
Broccoli also has natural anti-oxidants like vitamin C,
sulfur and amino acids. These help remove free radicals
from the body (which can lead to Alzheimer's and other
diseases) and toxins such as uric acid, which can cause
gout, arthritis, rheumatism, kidney stones, and skin
diseases like eczema.
Broccoli is a source of omega-3 essential fatty acids.
Your body needs these fats for healthy cell development
and brain function. They also help reduce blood pressure
and keep your heart functioning properly.
====================
Nothing to sneeze at
====================
The vitamin C, beta-carotene, selenium, copper, zinc and
phosphorus in broccoli boost the immune system and help you
fight off various infections.
=============
Healthy colon
=============
The vitamin C and beta-carotene in broccoli help to
protect the colon cells from the damaging effects of free
radicals, and it's VERY rich in fiber to keep things moving
along smoothly and stop constipation. This helps prevent
diverticulosis and diverticulitis attacks, and can help
ease Crohn's, colitis and IBS.
============
Strong bones
============
Broccoli is full of calcium, magnesium, zinc and
phosphorus, which make it a must for strong bone
development for a baby during pregnancy and in young
children, as well as osteoporosis prevention in adults.
===========================
Diabetes and blood pressure
===========================
Broccoli has the mineral chromium, which helps regulate
insulin and blood sugar. This is vital for people with
diabetes and high blood pressure.
==============================
Don't eat that nasty liver anymore!
==============================
Anemia is directly related to a lack of iron and certain
proteins...and broccoli happens to be loaded with both of
these. So no need to choke down that liver or take those
constipating iron supplements any more!
Wow! And this is only a PARTIAL list of the wonders of
broccoli.
Now, two of the most common excuses I've heard for not
eating broccoli (or any other vegetables) is "It gives me
gas." and "I don't like the taste."
Well, if you eat broccoli the way I teach you in Great
Taste No Pain, it won't cause stomach problems.
AND, I challenge you to make THIS dish and tell me you
don't like broccoli:
------------------------------------------------
Italian Broccoli Serves: 4-6
------------------------------------------------
1 large head (or 2 small heads) broccoli, broken into
florets
3 cloves garlic, minced
1/2 cup olive oil, plus more for drizzling
1/2 cup grated Parmesan or Romano cheese
1/2 tsp. salt (preferably "sea") or garlic salt
1/4 tsp. freshly ground black pepper
Preheat oven to 350°.
Rinse and steam broccoli until just slightly tender.
Drain, return to pot and set aside. Sauté the garlic in
olive oil until fragrant but not browned.
Stir garlic and oil into drained broccoli; add cheese,
sprinkle with salt and pepper and mix well. Turn broccoli
into a casserole or baking dish. Drizzle with a little
extra olive oil.
Bake uncovered for 20-30 minutes, until slightly crispy on
top.
PS: Christiane felt the difference from day 1 on Great
Taste No Pain:
*******************
Hi Sherry:
My story: Well, since my teens I have always had
digestive problems, all sorts of discomfort really,
bloating, wind, cramps, plus joint pain. I never thought
the last one was actually connected to my digestion.
I had been "diagnosed" with IBS a few years later, then
"developed" food intolerance. Now after living with this
for nearly 20 years, I have just had a second endoscopy
which found a Hiatus Hernia in my esophagus.
At least it showed no ulcers this time--my first endoscopy
at age 19 showed an ulcer in the duodenum!
I'm now on the fourth day of your programme and started
feeling the difference from day one. The most amazing one
was actually being able to sleep pretty quickly and not
having my leg, which always felt weird when lying down for
a while, keeping me awake!
I know it will be a while until everything I have put my
body through completely heals, but now I know how to and am
really happy with the results. And what's great, no more
endoscopies!!
