Checking out the mailbag yesterday, I received an
excellent question from a Erika that I thought would
interest everyone.
She writes:
"Is your plan suitable for patients with osteoporosis? If
so, how can I increase calcium intake nutritionally
speaking?"
Thank you,
Erika
*******************
Erika, eating as outlined in Great Taste No Pain is not
only suitable for people with osteoporosis, it's a must.
Here's why:
Contrary to what the drug companies and the dairy industry
will tell you, lack of calcium is NOT the cause of
osteoporosis.
If lack of calcium WAS the problem, then why would
people in the US, a country where we eat MORE dairy
products and gulp MORE calcium supplements than anywhere
on the planet, have THE HIGHEST RATE OF OSTEOPOROSIS IN THE
WORLD?
And why would people in less-developed countries that eat
little or no dairy products AND get far less total calcium
than we do have much, much LOWER rates of osteoporosis?
Clearly, lack of calcium isn't the problem.
Shocked? Just common sense. Stay with me here...
The problem is not that your body doesn't have enough
calcium inside it. The problem is that your body can't use
the calcium it already has in order to keep your bones
strong. The result? Osteoporosis!
And that comes from one thing and one thing alone: Being
too acidic.
Your body is an incredible machine...An alkaline machine
that's meant to BE alkaline and STAY alkaline 24 hrs a day.
So when you're acidic, your organs become stressed and
don't work right (and eventually they break down). This
leads to inflammation all over the body, which leads to
pain, sickness and diseases of all kinds.
Now, your body is infinitely wise. It knows when there's
too much acid.
So when it senses acidity in the blood, it tries to
restore alkalinity two ways.
The first way is by getting rid of the acid (by having the
kidneys filter it out and dump it into the urine).
The second way is to neutralize it.
Your body neutralizes acid by taking its own alkaline
minerals (CALCIUM, potassium, magnesium and sodium) from
your bones and vital organs and dumping them into your blood.
In the US, we have more osteoporosis than anywhere else
because our typical diet is LOADED with acid producing
foods.
This is true of many other industrialized countries too.
Our bodies are literally sucking away their own minerals
from our bones and organs to fight the daily onslaught of
acid. That is what the human body does to protect itself.
A scientific fact. Quite a paradox that in protecting
itself, it creates a completely different problem, eh?
And as a result of eating a "typical" diet, you're unable
to get any benefit from calcium supplements you take
because they're used up in the battle against acid, too.
Your poor bones don't even see any of that Os-cal or
whatever calcium supplement you may be taking.
Now I will tell you what the drug companies, dairy
industry and most doctors will NOT tell you:
If you want the best prevention for osteoporosis, or if
you have it and don't want it to get worse, you MUST get
rid of the acid in your system. Plain and simple.
And the easiest, best way to do that is to change what you
put in your mouth.
Keeping your body alkaline will help make sure all of your
organs stay strong and work as they should.
Inflammation will go away, and so will all those aches and
pains it causes. (Don't be surprised to see headaches and
backaches disappear, among other things.)
And most importantly, your body will keep and use all the
minerals it gets (including calcium) because they won't be
sent to the frontlines in your body's acid war.
Keeping all your minerals = stronger bones and muscles.
Now, for those of you who still have concerns about taking
in enough calcium, know this: Dairy products are THE WORST
source of calcium. Sorry, but it's true.
They are acidic and disease creating, and any calcium you
may derive from them will be drafted into the war against
the acidity they CAUSE. So you benefit from none of it.
Great Taste No Pain explains this all in great detail, and
also gives you recipes for other (delicious) sources of
dietary calcium.

something to put off for another day.

PS: Fran says she hasn't had arthritis pain since she
started GTNP...
*******************
Hi Sherry,
I'd been having terrible problems with hormones (sweating,
etc.), then over the past year problems with hypertension
(my blood pressure fluctuated anywhere from 120 to over
200). I had joint pain, muscle aches, and definitely
headaches (sometimes migraines) as well as some depression.
These would all be worse sometimes and not bad at others.
Then I found your plan. Wow! This is amazing! I've been
reading the testimonies of people who have tried it and
found it a "life saver".
We (my husband and I) started the plan five days ago and
have been strictly following it.
So far my arthritis has not bothered me once, and I've
lost about 4 pounds.
I had been retaining water and having a difficult time
losing weight. I was taking Maxide for the water retention
and had terrible side effects, so I quit taking it. Now
I'm not retaining water, I feel great, I have energy and am
thinking clearly--it's wonderful!
I asked my husband how he's been feeling and he said he
has noticed that he doesn't have the acid reflux he
normally gets after eating (even though it wasn't bad
enough for medication he still had it).
I've prayed about direction for our diet and I knew
medication was not the answer. Finding your web site was a
blessing. Thank you again.
