People who are on a never-ending search for the magic pill
to solve their health problems can now look to something
else.
The magic knife.
Recent studies have shown that gastric bypass surgery
extends the lives of many obese patients. But 1 in 200 die
within a month of having the surgery.
But even with these dire statistics, there are also
discussions now about its use as a treatment for type 2
diabetes.
So people are coming out of the woodwork asking to have
gastric bypass surgery--even people in their 70's and 80's
who, because of risk factors like heart conditions, could
die not a month later, but right on the table!
What's MOST important to remember about this surgery is
that after you have it, you must commit to making lifelong
changes to your diet and the dreaded "E" word--exercise.
Fit people who eat right and maintain a good number on the
scale are less susceptible to disease and therefore are
likely to live longer. It's no secret.
I've had personal experience with 3 different people who
have had gastric bypass surgery--here are their stories:
=========
Person #1
=========
This man had the surgery a few years ago and has since
been 100% committed to eating healthy and exercising
regularly. He has to, since his stomach is now the size
of a walnut.
He looks good and feels good, and has probably extended
his life a good number of years too. He's the ideal.

Person #2
=========
This is a woman who used to work for us a few years ago.
She was huge when we hired her, and after observing her
eating habits for a short time, I knew why.
She never ate a lot in one sitting, but she would graze
all day long on packaged crap before and after her fast
food lunch!
She was so heavy that she had trouble walking. No joke.
But every day she'd hobble in with her bags of chemicalized
junk to nosh on all day.
After a short time the shocking truth came out.
She had had gastric bypass surgery a few years before.
She lost a whole lot of we-ight, but never did a thing
about her eating habits, and exercise was a 4-letter word.
So she blew back up again, just like a float in the Macy's
Thanksgiving Day parade.
That's why she couldn't eat a lot in one sitting--her
stomach literally could not fit another bite.
And every single bite she took was of the WRONG stuff.
She saw the gastric bypass surgery as the magic knife, and
didn't do a darn thing about taking responsibility for her
health afterwards.

Person #3
=========
This lady works in a jewelry store where we shop several
times a year.
Whenever I need a watch battery or an anniversary gift for
a great spouse :-) she takes care of me.
When I first met her about 4 years ago, she proudly told
me she had had gastric bypass surgery and lost over 100
pounds.
I congratulated her, and she did look really trim, but I
couldn't help but wonder why I saw a can of Coke near the
register. That's the LAST thing someone who needs to
maintain their weight (or ANYone) should be drinking.
My suspicion was correct.
Each time we saw her after that, she was just a little bit
bigger.
The surgery had been her magic knife...and she gave no
thought to stopping what made her look like a heifer in
the first place.
Sadly, I passed her in the store about a month ago and
barely recognized her because she was so big...and her can
of Coke was right there near the register.

What a difference, huh? One person saw the surgery as
just part of the answer and took it upon himself to ensure
his lifelong success. The other two are suffering the
consequences of the surgery.
Now, what I'm about to say is very important.
I'm here to tell you the honest truth because I care about
you:
There is no magic pill or magic knife.
YOU are responsible for your own health. Not your doctor.
Not your spouse. Not your employer. Not the stars.
YOU.
And by far the most important steps you can take to ensure
great health, a normal weight and a long life are to move
your body and feed it right.
Pick any form of exercise you like and DO IT at least 3-5
times a week. Even walking.

PPS: Joan's GERD is gone after just one week on Great
Taste No Pain:

Sherry:
I started Great Taste No Pain one week ago. I was having
such severe GERD symptoms that I couldn't sleep through the
night. I took TUMS all the time with little relief. I
would wake up in the middle of the night with such severe
burning that I rarely had a full, decent night's sleep. I
was desperate, and starting looking online for dietary ways
to control my symptoms.
This program appealed to me initially because it didn't
look like it would be too difficult to follow, and didn't
recommend that I give up a whole list of foods that I
enjoy. The results of being on this for one week are:
- I have not taken any TUMS.
- I have not been awakened with heartburn.
- When I have experienced any heartburn during the daytime
it has been minor and I've usually been able to figure out
what I did wrong that caused it.
- I've lost 7 lbs.
Another unexpected side effect is that I have less post-
nasal drip and I've been able to stop taking cough drops
all day long. When I did take one cough drop it caused
terrible burning so I'm relieved that those symptoms have
decreased with my new food plan.
I'm so grateful for having this new way of eating. I've
experienced a few restaurant and banquet meals during the
week and by making the modifications to what I selected,
I've been able to avoid feeling stuffed and uncomfortable.
It's a new feeling to get up from a "big" meal and feel
invigorated. I don't want to overeat any more because it's
easy to be satisfied eating this way.
