Nobody knows the horrors of IBS better than I do. I was
in constant agony even as a child. And it got worse every
year.
As many as 20 percent of the American adult population,
(about 1 in 5) have IBS symptoms, making it one of the
most common conditions diagnosed by doctors.
The interesting thing is that IBS isn't a true disease or
condition at all. It's a meaningless title given to a
series of symptoms when all other gut problems (like
colitis, diverticulitis, Crohn's disease and cancer) are
ruled out.
There's no test for IBS--it's just the label that's
assigned when your GI series, colonoscopy and barium enema
all come back negative, and your doctor can't otherwise
explain why you have frequent cramping, bloating and
bounce between constipation and diarrhea.
The symptoms can be severe...and very embarrassing
because they can strike at any time without warning. They
don't conveniently show up just when you're home alone--oh
no, it's usually when you're out shopping or at work or
socializing with friends.
You end up memorizing where the public bathroom is in
every place you go.
And you feel hopeless. Because the only advice doctors
offer is drugs and avoiding foods that seem to "trigger"
your particular attacks.
Neither works very well--I know first hand.
I was given pills that did nothing but make me tired, and
could not pinpoint any certain foods that caused an attack-
-EVERY food seemed to bother me.
That's why Brenda's story below resonated with me:

Sherry:
Since my daughter (age 17) was diagnosed almost 2 years
ago with IBS, we've tried just about everything. She's
burned out on all these different things I've had her try
or things the doctors have had her try that really have
not worked.
I'm running out of ideas and she's supposed to move
across the country to go to college in a short 4 months.
I would feel much better, as a mom, if I felt this IBS was
under control. She has a full ride scholarship and I
don't want her to have to come home due to stomach
problems and end up losing this 4 year college
scholarship.

SB: Brenda, nothing you've tried has worked for your
daughter so far because nothing has addressed the REAL
cause of her symptoms. Here's what I mean:
IBS is the reaction that many people's bodies have to
eating an acid-forming diet.
You see, when you eat foods that are very acidic or
combined improperly, you put a tremendous strain on your
stomach to try to digest them.
This results in your stomach producing too much acid and
brings your digestion to a snail's pace (or stops it
altogether).
When this happens, by the time your food gets into the
intestines, it's not broken down like it should be. This
is what leads to gas, bloating and constipation or
diarrhea--all of the classic IBS symptoms.
The great news is when you learn which foods to eat more
or, which to eat less of and the many food combinations
that produce easy, fast pain-free digestion, life is fun
again.
It can happen as fast as flipping a switch for most people.
There are just a few simple principles to remember.
When you let Great Taste No Pain be your guide, you can
look forward to:
- Eating out and socializing with confidence
- No more worrying about where the bathroom is everywhere
you go
- An end to the embarrassing gas, constipation and
diarrhea for good
- No need for useless medicines that do nothing but cost
money (and give you side effects)
- No need to unbutton your pants or wear loose clothes
because of the bloating
- Less missed time from work
Speaking from experience, life is sweet without IBS. I
"flipped the switch" 17 years ago when I was trained to
eat how I now teach in Great Taste No Pain. I haven't had
a single problem since. 20+ years of agony over in less
than a day.
PS: Stacie saw an utter miracle in just 4 days with her
IBS:

Sherry,
I started your plan on Jan. 1, 2009 to the day. It took
me 4 full days to feel the results, but they were
astounding!
I had been suffering from pain every time I ate, not to
mention that I looked 9 months pregnant at the same time.
My clothes hurt down to my underwear. I was miserable.
I had been to a GI specialist and had every test done
known to the Medical community-- Colonoscopy, Endoscopy,
MRI, lots of different medicines, etc. My doctor never
mentioned anything about the way I ate, not one thing--
just prescribed another round of antibiotics to ensure I
didn't have some weird bacteria in my gut.
I suffered from food poisoning in Cancun, Mexico about 11
years ago and it seemed I haven't been the same since.
The doctors never found a thing wrong with me except to
say I had IBS.
I ate the way you teach in your plan and it was a
complete and utter miracle. I couldn't believe the change
in my digestion. I was not boated, I did not have
heartburn, I didn't feel like a pregnant woman, my clothes
fit better and I lost 6 # in a month.
I couldn't believe the changes! I sometimes slipped too,
but even so if I stay on track 90% of the time, I feel
tons better. I even go to the bathroom w/out
constipation. I feel so light and free. My sinuses are
even better--strange, but true.
I told my doctor about this new way of eating. She
didn't seem that excited about it because she didn't cure
me with all the medications she prescribed.
I no longer take Prevacid except on a rare occasion that
I slip and eat wrong. I've learned to be a new and
healthier person. I am now walking an hour a day again
because I have more energy. I had stopped exercising
because I felt like a sewage tank most of the time. Now,
I am up and raring to go.
Thanks Sherry! I might have to kiss you if I ever see
you in person!
