What causes nasty breath - and how to stop it

Here's a fun fact to start your day:  Your mouth is like
your gut.

What I mean is your mouth is home to loads of good and bad
bacteria, just like your intestines.  Scientists estimate
there are over 6 billion bacteria in your mouth.

When you kiss someone, depending on how deep and lingering
it is ;=), you can exchange anywhere from 10 million to 1
billion bacteria.

As long as most of the bacteria in your mouth are
beneficial bacteria, you can smooch away with confidence.
But the problems arise when the opposite is true.

You see, similar to your intestines, when the bad bacteria
in your mouth outnumber the good, sickness and disease can
flourish.

Bad breath (halitosis) is the direct result of bad
bacteria overgrowth in the mouth.  And all the minty
mouthwash, gum and Tic Tacs in the world won't change that.

This also increases the likelihood of periodontal disease--
an infection of the gums that comes in two forms--
gingivitis and periodontitis.

Gingivitis is early stage periodontal disease where you
get red, swollen, bleeding gums.  Periodontitis is the more
advanced stage, where you can develop abscesses and end up
losing teeth.

And like with your intestines, when you have bad bacteria
growing out of control in your mouth, your problems begin
to multiply.

The bacteria can get into your bloodstream and wreak havoc
in other areas of your body too, especially your heart.
That's why some people with heart murmurs or mitral valve
prolapse have to take antibiotics before they have dental
work done--they've already got a heart concern and can't
risk an infection.

But similar to your intestines, you can help your mouth
achieve and maintain a good flora balance.

There are just 3 easy steps:

1)  Brush and floss everyday.  The big one here is
flossing.  Take the time--it only takes a minute or less
and can save your teeth.

2)  Visit a dentist AT LEAST once a year.

3)  Take Super Shield probiotic supplements everyday.

Several of Super Shield's bacteria have been identified as
being especially helpful for your mouth:  Lactobacillus
acidophilus DDS-1, Lactobacillus plantarum 299v,
Lactobacillus rhamnosus GG, Lactobacillus salivarius UCC118
and Bifidobacterium longum BB536.

These super strains not only help make your gut healthy,
but they can help beef up the good bacteria population in
your mouth.  That means sweeter breath, healthier gums and
less chance of losing teeth.

Now THAT'S something to smile about!

To your health,

Sherry Brescia
