Today is a karate day for me--sparring class to be exact.
I'm the only woman in the class fighting blackbelt men who
weigh between 175 and 240 pounds.
That's no easy task, considering I'm 5'4", weigh 112
pounds and 47 years old...not exactly a spring chicken.
So I need all the help I can get! And one of the things
that's crucial is that my joints work smoothly and be
flexible enough to fire off my punches and kicks, and block
those that are flying at me with great force.
But for many people my age, joint pain is increasingly
becoming a part of their lives.
Most people over age 35 in the US experience at least
occasional joint pain or stiffness. And it's been
estimated that as many as 70 million Americans -- or about
one in three -- have some form of arthritis or joint pain.
This affects their quality of life and is a major cause for
doctor's visits and time lost from work.
You don't need to wonder why those statistics are so high.
All you need to do is look at the Standard Western diet
most people eat.
It's full of acid forming food combinations, refined
carbohydrates and processed "foods"--all things that raise
acidity in the body and lead to inflammation everywhere--
joints included.
But there's another relatively unknown factor that is a
MAJOR cause of joint pain and stiffness...
A deficiency in Omega-3 essential fatty acids.
The typical American consumes only about 20% (one fifth)
of the Omega-3's that our grandparents consumed 100 years
ago. And we're feeling it from head to toe.
There are 2 major reasons for this:
* Processed foods change naturally occurring Omega-3 acids
into artery-clogging trans-fatty acids.
* The animals that are raised for our meat supply are not
being fed the Omega-3 rich foods they were once fed. So
it's not in the meat that humans eat.
And even worse, many people are overloaded with Omega-6
fatty acids, due to our diets of refined grains, vegetable
oils and meats from corn-fed animals.
There needs to be a delicate balance between Omega-6's and
Omega-3's in your body. When they are working together in
about a 5:1 ratio, they effectively fight inflammation.
But most people have a ratio of 10:1 or worse. People who
eat lots of processed foods have a ratio of up to 50:1!
With this perverse imbalance of Omega fatty acids, the
anti-inflammation system in our bodies cannot and does not
function properly.
And you end up with LOTS of joint pain as a result.
But there's good news in all of this...because your body
CAN bounce back.
You can help reduce joint pain dramatically (as well as
your need for ulcer-causing pain relievers) by restoring a
healthy Omega-6 and 3 balance to your diet.
It involves just two easy steps:
1) Cut back on Omega-6-rich foods like corn oil,
processed boxed and canned foods, grain-fed meats,
margarine and fast foods.
2) Replenish your Omega-3 supply with a good
pharmaceutical-grade fish oil supplement.
The supplement we just produced, Vital-Mega 3, is a super-
potent, pharmaceutical-grade fish oil that delivers a full
1,000 mg. each of the necessary EPA and DHA essential fatty
acids in every daily 2-capsule serving.
It's obtained from small plankton eating fish caught in
the deep, pure waters off the coast of Iceland. I insisted
on nothing but the highest quality for Vital-Mega 3. Using
the purest, best fish oil we could obtain means providing a
supplement that can help a whole lot of people move a whole
lot easier each day!
If you're bothered with annoying aches and pains and are
popping Tylenol, Motrin or prescription pain relievers like
candy, it's time to see what restoring your Omega fatty
acid balance can do for you.
PS: If you get January's issue of Powerlifting USA
magazine, you'll see a picture of me doing one of my prize
side kicks--with no joint pain or stiffness!
