Do you want to know why people of all ages are so much fatter
and ill so much more often than we were just 30 years ago?
To most people, it doesn't make sense. Actually it does.
Additives in foods are a MAJOR reason. High Fructose Corn
Syrup is one of the worst additives to the modern diet. It
is extremely destructive. And the chilling health/illness
statistics thrown at us daily by the media are due, in a
large part, to High Fructose Corn Syrup found in thousands
of foods found on your grocer's shelves.
==============
The TV Commercial
==============
Recently there was a commercial on TV where one woman is
pouring fruit punch for kids at a birthday party. Another
woman comes up to her and accuses her of not caring what
she feeds the kids.
The first woman says, "Excuse me?" and the second one
says, "That contains high fructose corn syrup. You know
what they say about it."
The first woman responds, "Oh, you mean that it's made
from corn, it doesn't have artificial ingredients and like
sugar, it's fine in moderation?"
The second woman doesn't quite know how to explain the
dangers of high fructose corn syrup, and is left to look
stupid with no response.
A total crock. The food processing industry is reeling
from all the bad press. So instead of taking this killer
out of the foods, and lose all the profits, they are just
spinning it to make a deadly ingredient sound healthy.
I can't even imagine the number of class action lawsuits
that will be happening in the next few years because of
HFCS. It is going to be a circus. You watch.
For any of you who suspect that high fructose corn syrup
is not good for you but are like the tongue-tied woman in
the commercial, you won't want to miss a word of this.
Because high fructose corn syrup is VERY dangerous to our
health has a bad reputation for VERY good reasons.
And worse yet, if you're like the lady pouring the fruit
punch that thinks HFCS is OK, you're killing yourself with
a slow, sweet death.
Here are the facts:
Let's start by addressing the 3 points made by the lady in
the commercial:
1) HFCS is made from corn
This is said to show that HFCS is derived from a "natural"
source, thereby implying that it's good for you.
Consider this: Cocaine is derived from a natural source--
the South American coca plant--but that doesn't make it
good for you. In fact, every dangerous chemical has at its
root, a natural source. So this argument used to promote
this VERY dangerous food additive is laughable.
2) It doesn't have artificial ingredients
This is another twist on the attempt to get us to believe
HFCS is "natural." And it does not swing. HFCS is a
substance in a highly processed, artificial form that's
extremely harmful to your body -- who cares what's added or
not added to it?
It wouldn't matter much to me if hemlock was added to my
arsenic -- how about you?
3) Like sugar, it's fine in moderation
WRONG!
All sugars are not created equal.
Sugar in the form of glucose is the energy your body
needs. Every single cell in your body--especially your
brain--uses glucose.
Here's how glucose and fructose differ:
Liver stress
==========
Your body processes glucose and fructose in entirely
different ways. Your liver needs to break down 100% of the
fructose you take in, but only 20% of the glucose. So
fructose puts an added stress on your liver, an organ you
do not want to stress.
Plus fructose metabolism in the liver creates an abundance
of wastes and toxins including uric acid, which raises
blood pressure and causes gouty arthritis. Extremely
painful.
Fat accumulation
============
Since every cell in your body uses glucose, much of what
you take in is "burned up" quickly. But fructose, on the
other hand, turns into fatty acids, bad cholesterol and
triglycerides, which in turn get stored as fat.
These fatty deposits accumulate in your liver and muscle
tissues, leading to insulin resistance, type II diabetes
and fatty liver disease.
Feeling full vs. overeating
=====================
Glucose suppresses your hunger hormones and stimulates
leptin, which helps decrease your appetite. This is good.
But fructose has no effect on hunger hormones, and
interferes with leptin's communication with your brain,
which leads to overeating (and obesity). This is bad.
The moderation joke
==============
In addition, with HFCS being added to soda and every
processed food imaginable, eating it "in moderation" is a
joke and basically impossible. (More on that in number 4
below.)
4) Fructose itself is not the devil
Fructose occurs naturally in fruits and vegetables. And
if they were out only sources of fructose like they were
100 years ago, we would be fine.
But things have changed drastically.
Before the early 1900's most people took in 15 grams or
less of fructose from fresh fruits and vegetables, and the
fructose was in its pure, natural form.
Now the fructose we consume is highly processed (usually
from genetically modified corn) and we get MUCH more than
15 grams or less per day.
The average person who drinks soda and eats processed
foods take in 142 pounds of sugar (most in the form of
HFCS) a YEAR -- which is about 176 grams a DAY! So our
daily consumption has increased more than ten-fold from 100
years ago.
==========
MAJOR FACTOID:
==========
Getting back to the commercial: Just one 8 oz. glass of a
popular fruit punch has 29 grams of sugar -- DOUBLE what
our grandparents ate in an entire DAY. So even the example
used in the commercial is false advertising, and harmful.
===============
SUPER MAJOR FACTOID:
===============
5) Heavy metal contamination
Studies have shown unsafe levels of MERCURY in high
fructose corn syrup.
Mercury acts as a poison to your brain and nervous system.
It has been linked to fertility problems, memory and vision
loss, and trouble with blood pressure regulation.
It can also cause chronic fatigue and neuro-muscular
dysfunction.
Mercury exposure has also been linked to autism, heart
disease, Parkinson's disease and multiple sclerosis.
In addition, crystalline fructose (which is a form of
fructose food manufacturers are now using) can contain
lead, arsenic, chloride and other heavy metals.
So, unlike what the lady in the commercial wants you to
think, HFCS is dangerous. And it's unconscionable that
it's dumped into our food supply. But it is. Massively.
High fructose corn syrup is in LOADS of products such as:
Soda
Ketchup
Salad dressings
Sports drinks
Cough medicines
Jellies and jams
Yogurt
Ice cream
Cereals
Snack chips and crackers
Breads
Candies
Syrups
Pickle relish
Non-dairy whipped topping
Granola bars
Lunchables
Packaged pastries, snack cakes and cookies
Low-fat foods
Why, you may ask? Because it's much cheaper than natural
sugar. And it's sweet. So gigantic profits are made by
adding it to food instead of sugar.
So what should you do?
Read labels and find alternatives... Organic products
typically don't contain HFCS. I always buy organic
ketchup, mayonnaise and real maple syrup, for example. I
also make my own salad dressing. It's cheaper than premade
stuff and tastes a whole lot better.
Use organic raw honey, organic cane sugar or stevia for
sweeteners (in moderation).
Drink water instead of soda or sports drinks. Soda is THE
single largest source of high fructose corn syrup
consumption in the world.
Plus the less that you rely on processed foods overall,
the better.
Instead, feed your body REAL foods and you won't have to
worry about HFCS causing disease.
The GTNP manuals will teach you exactly what to do to
avoid dangerous processed foods and show you how to prepare
delicious meals without harmful ingredients.
When you taste foods made from real ingredients, you'll
completely lose your taste for (and addiction to) HFCS and
begin to love the flavors and sweetness that occur
naturally in foods.
Plus your body will benefit from the nutrients it gets
from real foods, and so will your waistline.
And the next time someone mentions HFCS, unlike the lady
in the commercial, you'll know exactly what to say.
To your health,
Sherry Brescia
PS: It's crucial to have a good intestinal flora balance
to ensure efficient digestion and keep your immune system
strong. But most people who eat a lot of HFCS have the
exact opposite (more bad vs. good) of what they should
have. Super Shield and its 13 strains of medical grade
friendly flora can help restore your balance to where it
should be. Learn more about Super Shield and what it can
