One thing that I frequently hear when talking with people about
their health is how they feel "doomed" because of their family
history.
"Everyone is my family has a bad stomach, so it's no surprise I
have acid reflux."
"My father, grandfather and great-grandfather were all
diabetics, so I probably will be too."
"My mother's whole family has heart problems and I'm getting
signs of it too--I already have high blood pressure."
While it's true that the genes you inherit and your family
history can play a role in your state of health, it's not an
iron-clad guarantee that the same fate will befall you.
Here's why:
Genes--the good and the bad
Your genes are your "blueprint of life." Everything about
you--your (natural!) hair color, eye color, body type, voice,
shape of your nose, organ structure, etc.--is determined by your
genes.
Now, contrary to what you may believe, not all of your genes are
firing on all cylinders all the time...or even at all.
Instead there are some parts of your genes that are very
"active" and some that quietly lie dormant and will only affect
you if they are "awakened."
Foods and genes talk to each other
This may come as a surprise to you, but the foods you eat
directly affect your genes.
The nutrients in your foods "talk to" your genes, delivering
information that can alter which aspects of your genes--those
that promote good health or those that encourage disease--will
be activated.
Research has shown that the genes you've inherited that make you
more susceptible to chronic disease do not single-handedly and
inevitably CAUSE disease.
Instead their harmful, health-wrecking messages remain "asleep"
unless you make food, lifestyle or environmental choices that
nudge them and trigger them into action.
As a matter of fact, your genes are SO responsive to your diet
that eating foods that don't provide for your individual
nutritional needs is now recognized as a major factor in the
development of chronic diseases--including type II diabetes,
arthritis, cardiovascular disease, digestive problems and even
several cancers.
"You are what you eat" has certainly taken on a whole new
meaning!
Phytonutrients are where it's at
Fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds, beans and legumes
all contain health-promoting compounds called "phytonutrients."
(Some that may sound familiar to you are carotenoids, flavonoids
and phenols).
These phytonutrients interact with your genes to "wake up" the
ones that help encourage production of antioxidants and
detoxifying enzymes, while "putting to sleep" the ones that
promote inflammation and disease.
Here's an example of phytonutrients in action:
Let's look at an orange.
While most people think "vitamin C" when they see an orange,
that's just a drop in the bucket.
An orange contains a whopping 170 phytonutrients, including 60
bioflavonoids and 20 carotenoids, ALL of which talk to your
genes in ways that can help lessen inflammation, prevent blood
clot formation and activate your body's natural detox system.
2 points: Variety and
absorption
Each phytonutrient has its own "specialty" in terms of how it
helps promote healthy body functioning. So it's important to
make sure you're getting a wide variety of the foods I mentioned
above so you can maximize your genetic disease-fighting ability.
But that's just half of the equation.
Because unless your body is actually absorbing the nutrients you
take in, you'll end up benefitting from little or none of their
genetic-driven disease-fighting power.
And the key to properly absorbing nutrients of any kind, my
friend, is complete and efficient digestion.
Now you may ask, "How can I tell if my digestion is efficient?"
Easy.
Look at the list of common poor digestion signs below and see
how many of them apply to you:
- Gas
-
Bloating
-
Heartburn
-
Acid rising in your throat
-
Constipation
-
Diarrhea
-
Belching
-
A sense of uncomfortable fullness after meals
-
Nausea
-
Feelings of constant hunger
-
Undigested food in your stools
-
Frequent headaches
-
Skin problems--acne, rashes
-
Vague body aches
-
Low energy
If you suffer from any of those symptoms MORE THAN once in a
rare while, chances are excellent you have poor digestion.
And if you've been diagnosed with any of these conditions, poor
digestion is practically a given:
- Acid reflux
-
GERD
-
IBS
-
Diverticulosis
-
Diverticulitis
-
Food allergies
-
Colitis
-
Crohn's disease
-
Gastritis
-
Ulcers
Turn it all around in 3 easy ways
In order to smooth out your digestion and maximize your nutrient
absorption, it's important to eat combinations of foods that are
easy for your system to break down and don't result in
overproduction of acid.
It's also crucial to keep your population of intestinal
beneficial bacteria strong, since they too help aid digestion
and nutrient absorption.
The winning team of Great Taste No Pain, Digestizol Max and
Super Shield probiotic formula can help you achieve this
important goal.
Here's how:
Part 1: Eat it
In the Great Taste No Pain manuals, I teach you the simple
principles of good food combining and spell out exactly what to
eat with what for easy digestion.
And while it's not necessary to make the dishes in the recipe
book, if you do want to cook, my recipes are downright
scrumptious and feature lots of real foods with disease-fighting
phytonutrients.
You can learn about and order Great Taste No Pain here.
(Note: If you're
gluten sensitive or have celiac, Great Taste No Gluten is
for you instead. )
Part 2: Have the enzymes for the job
In addition to eating the right foods together, another key
component to efficient digestion is having adequate enzymes to
carry out the job.
Problem is, most people who have a typical diet and especially
those who rely on antacids a lot (am I talking about you?) have
diminished their body's enzyme-making ability.
Digestizol Max is a unique blend of 14 plant derived enzymes (so
it's perfect for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike) that will give your body the help it needs to properly break down your
meals and enhance nutrient absorption.
See how
Digestizol does that here.
Part 3: Beef up your army of good guys
Let's not forget about those humble little intestinal flora in
your gut.
The friendly bacteria in your gut help break down certain
starches and fibers and keep digestion running smoothly. Plus
they help keep your gut wall healthy, which helps with nutrient
absorption too.
Super Shield probiotic formula contains 13 quality strains of
potent beneficial bacteria that are just waiting to line your
gut wall and carry out their job to help keep your digestion
tip-top, as well as strengthen your immune system.
See ALL the ways Super Shield can benefit you here.
The family tree is not a sentence of disease
Remember, just because your family history may include some
nasty, chronic diseases, it does NOT mean that you have no
choice but to sit back and wait for disease to strike.
My family history is not rosy. My father's entire family had
heart problems and high blood pressure. (Notice I said "had"
because they're all dead, including my Dad--he died of a massive
heart attack at 58.)
Me? I have a very healthy 90/55 blood pressure, normal
cholesterol and triglycerides and a very low resting pulse
rate--all indicative of strong heart health.
And a big part of that is surely my diet and digestion.
You can do the same. You can put the power of nutrition and
genetics to work FOR you instead of AGAINST you.
Feed the natural disease-fighting genes inside of you (while
leaving the disease-creating genes to lie dormant) by nourishing
your body with real foods and helping your body absorb all those
life-giving nutrients.
Your family history does not have to be YOUR history.
Start a new history for yourself. Today.
To your health,
Sherry Brescia
PS: From one Sherry to another--she's now free of IBS and
migraines, to name a few:
Sherry,
I am 57 years old, and I have to say you have changed my life.
I have had stomach issues my entire life, mainly constipation,
for days and up to 2 weeks. I have been to several Dr's over the
years and many tests always with the same conclusion--IBS.
At times I would get so sick with migraines & nausea that I
could not get out of bed.
I have been on the Great Taste No Pain program for 6 months and
my entire system has changed. No more headaches, sinus issues
completely gone, and my stomach issues are gone.
I can't thank you enough.
Thanks again,
Sherry
