10 Secret Food Facts You MUST Know (to be healthy)

I have a confession to make...

I'm a people watcher.

I observe people all the time, everywhere I go.

It's not just nosiness or curiosity--it's necessity. Because when you're in the health consulting field like I am, it's essential to observe how people's behaviors can affect their health.

Some of my favorite places to watch people are doctor's offices, church, airports, parties, restaurants and especially...

Grocery stores!

I've got to be frank--I feel like hurling when I see what the average person puts in their cart. And I hate to say it but it's the norm and not the exception that most people's carts are loaded with things that don't occurred in Nature.

In other words, processed food and soft drinks.

To have a better understanding this (and even more, why you should take a closer look at YOUR cart), let's talk about the obvious and not-so-obvious wrath of processed foods.

The obvious

1- Processed foods are EXTREMELY hard to digest.

As such, they're a leading cause of a whole slew of GI problems including gas, bloating, constipation, diarrhea and heartburn. Plus, they cause your body to use up lots of enzymes which can eventually lead to enzyme deficiency.

2- They contain few or no usable nutrients.

When your body is not properly nourished, your inner dinner bell (hunger signal) is triggered constantly. That causes you to overeat and your backside to get wider and wider.

3- They create HUGE amounts of acid wastes.

Your body can only eliminate so many acid wastes...and when it gets overwhelmed and can't keep up, the wastes "spill over" into your bloodstream instead. From there they trigger pain and inflammation, stress all of your organs and tissues and put out the welcome mat for tumors and disease.

4- They are THE leading source of trans-fats.

Trans-fats are basically death on a spoon. They're as good for you as eating tar, and about as easy for your body to metabolize. They are a leading cause of atherosclerosis and heart disease, and basically turn your arteries into french fries.

And they are in most "name-brand" processed foods.

5- They are food for the harmful bacteria in your gut.

The dangerous bacteria in your gut gorge on the sugar and refined carbs in processed foods. They chow down gleefully, multiply like rabbits, and can crowd out and overcome your friendly gut bacteria. This weakens your immune system and hampers your digestion even more.

OK, enough of that.

Now let's look at the not-so-obvious, or more accurately...

From maddening to the downright gross

1- Food companies spend billions pushing unhealthy foods on kids.

According to the FTC, food companies spend more than $1.6 BILLION DOLLARS each year advertising health-destroying junk to children--that includes TV, Internet, in-store advertising and special drawing and sweepstakes.

On TV alone, the average kid sees at least 5,500 food commercials fast food, soda, candy and snack foods.

And much of it is promoted as HEALTHY...as in good for them!

2- The studies are slanted.

Studies that food giants support tend to minimize health problems associated with their products.

Let's face it--HOW a study is conducted is not nearly as significant as WHO is funding it. And when the bucks are coming from a food company, you can bet dollars to donuts (no pun intended) that the health concerns associated with the food will be talked down or swept right under the rug.

3- They redefine "healthy."

Many allegedly "healthy" foods are anything but.

Take beverages, for example. Beverage manufacturers realize that people are catching on to the fact that soda isn't so good for you.

So how do these companies keep the more health-conscious people fooled...er, I mean, happy too? "Healthy" sports drinks, of course!

But they fail to point out that sports drinks and vitamin waters are LOADED with sugars and calories -- in other words, basically no different than soda.

4- Want some ketchup, mustard and pink slime with your burger?

Ground meat is commonly bulked up with what has been nicknamed "pink slime"--butchering scraps that have been cleansed with ammonia.

Yummy.

While the beef processing industry insists that these "lean, finely textured beef trimmings" are harmless, some experts suspect otherwise.

And while the USDA announced recently that school districts can choose between beef with or without pink slime, it still remains an approved ingredient, and the food industry is free to use boatloads of it.

5- Have a barf bag ready for this one

Aborted fetal tissue is used by companies like PepsiCo, Kraft and Nestle's in the manufacture of flavor chemicals.

And no, this is not an urban legend...

While the human tissue is NOT in the actual product that we consume, it's nonetheless used in lab testing to evaluate how actual human taste receptors respond to the various chemical flavorings.

Note that there are viable, non-human alternatives available for testing chemical flavorings that are used by many companies, but the problem is, you can't tell from the package.

"The choice of a new generation" takes on a whole new meaning, doesn't it?

So what should you do?

There are 3 effective measures you can take to minimize the devastating effects processed food can have on your health:

1) Find alternatives

Read labels and find alternatives for any processed foods you feel the need to buy.

100% Organic products don't contain harmful ingredients. Yes, they typically cost more than the non-organic alternatives, but isn't your health worth it?

And by the way, fast food is no better than boxed food from a grocery store. Skip Taco Bell, Pizza Hut and Mickey D's and cook your own meals instead.

This applies to beverages too--drink water or fresh fruit or vegetable juices instead of soda or sports drinks.

Remember, none of the food-like things you probably eat every week didn't even exist 100 years ago.  So humans survived quite nicely without any of it.

And so can you.

2) Rely less on processed foods overall

When you minimize processed foods and instead eat REAL foods in easy to digest combinations, you will not only encourage efficient digestion and avoid common GI problems, but your body will be able to eliminate built-up, disease-causing acid wastes and shed excess pounds.

Now doesn't THAT sound nice?

The Great Taste No Pain health system will teach you exactly how to do this.

The manual "How To End Stomach Pain Forever, Even If Your MD Says, 'No Way!'" will tell you the few easy principles you'll need to remember and explain the scientific basis behind why they work so well with how your system digests food.

"What To Eat With What" will help you plan meals around all of your favorite foods, including meats, poultry, fish, pastas, vegetables and more.

And the recipe book is filled with delicious creations that will absolutely become your favorites. You'll be amazed at how delicious real foods can be, and will likely lose your taste for the processed stuff.

Now, if you have gluten sensitivity or celiac (or just want to reduce your intake of gluten), never fear: There's Great Taste No Gluten to help you along.

Like Great Taste No Pain, Great Taste No Gluten also teaches you how to structure easy to digest meals, but goes on to give you a crash course on how to keep gluten out of your life.

Plus the 160 gluten-free dishes in the recipe book are so fantastic (especially the breads) you'll swear they must have gluten!

3) Help your intestinal flora recover from the onslaught

If you've eaten a fair amount of processed foods and/or drank a bit of soda recently (be honest), chances are excellent that your intestinal flora balance favors the "bad guys"--while the "good guys" are struggling.

Eating real foods can help restore a healthy balance, but many times that isn't enough...especially if your only recent "vegetables and fruits" have been ketchup, french fries and jelly.

So it's essential to give your gut a helping hand with a top shelf probiotic supplement like Super Shield.

Super Shield contains 13 high quality, effective friendly bacteria that are robust and ready to take their place in your system. They'll help fend off the bad guys, keep your digestion smooth and your gut wall strong, and beef up your immune system. Super Shield is not your average grocery store variety probiotic. It's medical-grade, baby.

Don't be blinded by fancy advertising or the false health claims of the food companies and fast food restaurants.

All they care about is profit, my friend, your health be damned.

Take charge of your health and enjoy delicious food like you never have before.

To your health,

Sherry Brescia

PS: Connie has seen the light and feels great!

Dear Sherry:

After turning forty, I found my body failing me at every turn. Along with gradually gaining weight, I developed migraines and bone spurs and had to get bifocals. Then came the high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and hot flashes.

When the biggies arrived--osteoporosis, diverticulitis, and most recently, diabetes--I felt like a chubby poster child for what happens when you think you're healthy but you're not.

This past fall I was still trying desperately to eat "balanced meals" and I was miserable. Eventually my doctor suggested a high protein/low carb diet, leaving out the veggies and fruits which appeared to tear up my digestive system. That worked with green beans as the only vegetable I could tolerate, and bananas as my only fruit.

But at the same time, my glucose levels continued to rise and I was diagnosed with diabetes. Ten days ago I met with a diabetic case worker, started to monitor my glucose levels several times per day, and was told to follow a diabetic diet--which stresses fruits and vegetables. Medication for the diabetes was forthcoming.

A week ago, trying to accommodate the diverticulitis diet AND the diabetic diet led me to the Internet which in turn led me to Great Taste No Pain.

Within the first two days of trying the plan, I was eating salads, vegetables, and fruit again...and feeling great. I wasn't hungry an hour after eating. I didn't crave sweets. I gave up coffee for tea [still with caffeine but not nearly as acidic]. My digestive system calmed down immediately.

I have now been following the plan for 7 days, I feel great, and have lost about 5#.

But here is the best news: My glucose levels are consistently within the normal range. I can't wait to return to the clinic next week and have them see what has happened.

I have never been a big believer in "diets" and have probably never stayed with one for over two days! But GTNP is different. And for me, it has become a whole new way of taking care of myself.

My friends are already getting tired of hearing me talk about it, but maybe they too will eventually realize that GTNP makes one heck of a lot of sense!

Thanks!

PS: The recipe for Salmon with Brown Sugar Glaze is wonderful!

Foods such as these require LOTS of enzymes to break them down and over time your body's ability to produce enough enzymes is diminished. Nothing can make you feel older than gas, bloating, heartburn and constipation from ineffective digestion and too few enzymes.
